Purchasing Manager, Sheffield

Ancon is looking to recruit a Purchasing Manager to maximise purchasing performance whilst controlling inventory levels, maintaining customer service excellence and enhancing business profitability.

You will be responsible for purchasing at Ancon's Sheffield site, a value in the region of £22m per year.

Key responsibilities will include maintaining supply of key materials, maximising volume purchasing benefits, communicating KPI’s internally and externally, ensuring customer service levels are not compromised by supply issues and, where possible, ensuring that purchasing activities across all sites are controlled and co-ordinated via ‘umbrella’ agreements.

You will have overall responsibility for inventory levels at the Sheffield site.

Essential Requirements

  • Eng/Tech degree or HNC/D
  • Minimum of 5 years purchasing experience within Engineering/Metals sector
  • Track record of delivering value through effective purchasing and using KPI’s to manage performance
  • Understanding of inventory management
  • Good communication skills
  • Strong negotiator
  • Ability to gather and analyse information
  • Fully PC/IT literate
  • Experience of ERP system to manage purchasing and inventory
  • Sourcing methodologies i.e. MTO, FMCG and Contract
  • Understanding of contract law/supply agreements
  • Understanding of management accounts
  • Knowledge of import/export procedures/requirements and supply logistics

Desirable Requirements

  • CIPS or similar
  • Experience in the stainless steel industry
  • Previous responsibility for inventory control
  • Experience of sourcing from the Far East
  • Previous experience of managing a purchasing team
  • Knowledge of Movex ERP and Cognos systems
  • Understanding of Lean Six Sigma and knowledge of the stainless steel market

Maintenance Fitter

A position has become available for a Maintenance Fitter at our Deeside factory to maintain the works plant and equipment. A required standard is set to maximise availability, reliability and efficiency in order to meet just-in-time and customer requirements, and to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all employees.

The main duties include:

  • Ensuring H&S systems and procedures are followed.
  • Maintaining and repairing all production machines in line with production priority.
  • Working effectively to maintenance schedules and orders.
  • Recording daily all maintenance activity and machine downtime as prescribed by the Ancon management system.
  • After completing a maintenance operation, ensuring a first off is made available (where applicable) and that it complies to current drawing specifications.
  • Performing any other reasonable duties which may be necessary for the efficient running of the business.

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a Maintenance Fitter role.
  • Pro-active and self motivated, able to work under own initiative and ability to work to deadlines.
  • Enthusiastic approach and good communication skills.
  • Good numeracy and literacy.
  • Good standard of education and ability to speak and understand English
  • Driving licence

Desirable Requirements

  • HNC Mech/Electrical
  • Press shop experience
  • PLC controlled equipment experience
  • Ability to fabricate
  • Experience of working with a range of production machinery
