Welcome to the latest Ancon newsletter. Today we highlight four ways to create brick soffits without any visible means of support and, with Ecobuild 2016 almost upon us, we summarise the product innovations we will have on display.

Next week at Ecobuild, Ancon will once again exhibit new sustainable building products that simplify construction and minimise thermal bridging.

In line with our continual product improvement strategy, we are extending our range of award-winning low thermal conductivity wall ties with the launch of the Teplo-BF. Comprising pultruded basalt fibres set in a resin matrix, with a thermal conductivity of just 0.7W/mK, the unique Teplo range virtually eliminates heat loss through thermal bridging in cavity wall construction. Providing the same thermal benefits as the original TeploTie, the new Teplo-BF features moulded safety ends that improve buildability and mortar bond strength, making it more user-friendly and suitable even in slow drying mortars.

We will also feature an impressive display of our new Nexus soffit system - a high quality, lightweight, brick faced support system, easily installed without mechanical lifting - developed in partnership with cut-brick specialist Ibstock Kevington.

Our newly extended range of insulated balcony connectors enables designers to maintain structural integrity without compromising on thermal efficiency. These thermal breaks have been proven through thermal modelling to eliminate the risk of condensation in various building types where junctions are assessed to BRE document IP1/06. The comprehensive range now includes carbon steel and stainless steel systems, for use at either concrete-to-concrete, steel-to-concrete or steel-to-steel interfaces.

4 ways to create attractive brick soffits

Brick soffits and reveals are an increasingly popular design feature which add an extra dimension to a masonry façade and pose an interesting engineering challenge.

Ancon now provides four ways to securely fix brickwork from above without any visible means of support, offering the architectural freedom and the trusted performance that the Industry demands. These four solutions are clearly illustrated in a new technical brochure available to download online.

1. Nexus® Brick Faced Support System - combines a ‘Nexus’ lightweight steel brick-faced unit from Ibstock Kevington with Ancon’s ‘MDC Nexus’ brick support angle and is our recommended solution. This two-part system, available in virtually any brick type or bond pattern, is simply bolted together on site providing quick and simple soffit alignment without mechanical lifting

2. Precast Concrete System - Ancon brick support systems can be designed and manufactured to take the considerable weight of a precast concrete brick-faced unit bolted to the underside of the angle

3. Hanger Tie System - a soldier course of solid bricks can be suspended from dowelled Ancon hanger wall ties fixed to Ancon 36/8 channel welded to the underside of an Ancon brick support angle

4. Stirrup and Stitching Rod System - a soldier course of cored bricks can be suspended under an Ancon brick support system with stirrups hung vertically from the angle combined with stitching rods fed horizontally through the bricks
