KSN Anchor wins praise in 2013 CONSTRUCT Innovation Award
A new rebar continuity system from ANCON that won ‘Best Product in Show’ when it was launched at the 2013 UK Concrete Show, has gone on to gain further recognition in the prestigious CONSTRUCT Innovation Award.
Ancon KSN Anchors represent a completely new approach to reinforcement continuity at slab-to-wall construction joints.
They have been ‘Highly Commended’ by the CONSTRUCT award judging panel who recognise excellence and innovation in the concrete industry.
Unlike traditional re-bend continuity boxes, where bar length, spacing and diameter are restricted by physical box dimensions, the new KSN Anchor system offers greater design flexibility and is faster and safe to install.
The internally threaded anchors are simply cast into the wall and, during construction of the adjoining slab, accept standard Bartec threaded continuation bars.
The KSN Anchor system removes the need for on-site bar straightening and its associated safety concerns, easily accommodates the longer rebar lap lengths now required by Eurocode 2 and allows multiple anchors to be installed simultaneously saving time.
The awards submission was based on Liverpool’s showpiece £167 million ‘Alder Hey in the Park’ hospital project, where 2,500 linear metres of KSN anchors have been used to connect pre-fabricated panels to in-situ cast slabs across four floors.
The 130mm anchors were installed off site into 200mm thick precast concrete walls and are then connected to slabs on site using 16mm Bartec threaded bars.
Ancon Marketing Manager, Annabelle Wilson said “I’m delighted that the concrete industry has been so quick to recognise the benefits of the new KSN Anchor, particularly in the precast sector where it provides valuable time and cost savings.”
Recognition in the CONSTRUCT awards is just the latest in a range of product and innovation awards for structural fixings specialist Ancon, who last year received the ultimate accolade – the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation for a unique Lockable Dowel system. This product was also Highly Commended by CONSTRUCT.

Following recent fire tests at BRE Global, Ancon is pleased to confirm that its innovative basalt-fibre, low thermal conductivity wall ties, Teplo-BF and Teplo-L, offer 120 minute fire resistance, making them suitable for buildings of any height.
After a string of Awards successes for the Teplo range, the new Teplo-BF low thermal conductivity wall tie has been shortlisted in the ‘Best Innovation in Insulation” category of the 2016 Build It Awards.
