Visit Ancon on stand B135 at Ecobuild 2017

Keeping innovation at the top of its agenda, Ancon will further expand its wide product range with new product launches at the UK’s largest event for specifiers in the built environment, Ecobuild 2017.

Nexus Brick Faced Support System

Combining lightweight brick units from Ibstock Kevington with Ancon brick support angles, the Nexus system creates architectural brick features including soffits, deep reveals and flying beams, quickly and easily, with perfect alignment. For more information on Nexus download the brochure or watch the video animation.

Insulated Balcony Connectors

Minimising heat loss while maintaining structural integrity, Ancon balcony connectors are available to suit concrete-to-concrete, steel-to-concrete and steel-to-steel applications. All solutions can also now be specified in stainless steel, which is 3x more thermally efficient than galvanised/carbon steel. Download the balcony connector brochure or watch the installation animations for more information.

Low Thermal Conductivity Wall Ties

For visitors designing PassivHaus and Zero Carbon projects, samples of Ancon’s low thermal conductivity ties will be displayed. The Teplo-BF is a new build cavity wall tie with a thermal conductivity of just 0.7W/mK, and features moulded safety ends which provide exceptional mortar bond making it suitable for use with lime and other slow-drying mortars.

Simplify core-to-slab connections in concrete frames

The CARES-approved KSN Anchor system presents a safer, easier, quicker solution to traditional re-bend continuity systems when creating slab to wall connections in multi-storey concrete frames.

With the KSN Anchor reinforcement continuity system, there is no on site bar straightening and virtually no restriction on bar length, so EC2 lap lengths are easily accommodated.

The system comprises internally-threaded anchors which are cast into the wall and, during construction of the adjoining slab, accept continuation bars prepared with a Bartec parallel-thread. A standard timber carrier allows multiple anchors to be installed simultaneously. Unlike re-bend systems where bar length, spacing and diameter are restricted by physical box dimensions, KSN Anchors provide total design flexibility.

A new video animation is available from Ancon, which evaluates the dangers and limitations of rebend continuity systems while demonstrating the easy installation of the KSN Anchor system.

How to ensure sufficient embedment of wall ties

Ancon’s latest blog discusses the importance of achieving sufficient wall tie embedment on site. Wall ties are structural components and a lack of embedment in the mortar joints of masonry cavity walls compromises tie performance and can lead to the collapse of walls.

Insufficient embedment could be the result of either the wrong length of wall tie being used i.e. wall tie is too short to achieve the minimum embedment in each leaf, or the correct length of wall tie is used but over-embedment in the inner leaf has left less than minimum embedment in the outer leaf.

Contractors should always purchase the wall tie type specified, and in the length specified, by the project architect or engineer. Ancon is available to help both specifiers and contractors with the correct selection and specification of its wall ties. If you need advice, contact the Ancon team or download our technical wall tie brochure.
