Technical Services Advisor

Location: Sheffield

The purpose of this role is to provide customers with technical advice on the use of Ancon products and to capitalise on market opportunities leading to product development and increased brand awareness. To produce safe, practical, and cost effective solutions to problems encountered by specifiers and end-users. To support the sales team and provide quotations to customers supplying designs and take offs as required.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Working in a team, you will be involved in producing safe, practical, and cost-effective solutions to design problems posed by both Specifiers and customers.
  • You will respond to both verbal and written technical enquiries with solutions using standard products, adaptations, and bespoke items.
  • You will review drawings, bills of quantities and other documentation received from customers, to identify the products they require, liaising with them and their design team as necessary to clarify details and / or request information.
  • You will carry out designs to determine correct products; sizes etc., and communicate any details, mark ups, assumptions and so forth to the customer. This information is then used by the Sales team to produce a quotation.
  • You will also have an important role in identifying opportunities for new products and the improvement of existing products to reduce costs, improve, or meet new requirements.
  • Requiring a good understanding of UK construction methods and common details, the role would particularly suit those with experience in construction products and detailing.
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive can do attitude are of paramount importance to this customer service role.

Essential Candidate Requirements:

  • HNC or equivalent qualification in a building or construction related subject
  • Having worked with a construction related design office environment
  • Able to understand Engineering/Technical Drawings
  • Problem solving/Organised/Methodical /AutoCAD
  • Construction knowledge/Computer literate/Microsoft Windows/Good Telephone Manner

Desirable Candidate Requirements:

  • Degree qualification in a building or construction related subject
  • Working knowledge of Ancon products and how they are used within the construction industry

Structural Engineer

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Structural Engineer to join our Technical Services Team. You will have the ability to respond to technical queries from construction sites, regarding specialist fabrications and other site-related issues, whilst providing engineering support to our Project Design, Technical Services and Sales teams as required. You will also aid the Technical Services team by offering practical, cost-effective solutions to problems posed by specifiers and product end users. In addition, you will be involved in the production of technical product specifications and take-offs for the purposes of pricing.  

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

Engineering support

  • Manage and maintain daily technical referral workload in a self-managed and timely manner
  • Produce bespoke engineered solutions for non-standard design situations as required for ongoing projects
  • Aid in the maintenance and development of standard design tools available to Project Design/Technical Services
  • Offer design/engineering guidance to internal teams and answer queries
  • Verify calculations produced by others
  • Share knowledge and experience of masonry technology and design methods

Dealing with Site-Related Queries

  • Respond to queries from site regarding the design and installation of Ancon products
  • Respond to reports of issues surrounding the use/installation of Ancon products by assessing the information provided to make a preliminary diagnosis
  • Carry out site inspections where issues are reported in order to fully diagnose the issue

Aiding the Technical Services Team

  • Ensure team communications with customers are appropriate, clear and informative
  • Provide the Sales teams with clear and concise information from which to prepare a quotation
  • Ensure all necessary calculations, drawings and designs are produced and are illustrated to a good concise standard
  • Attend site meetings as required to discuss specific requirements or address problems
  • Resolve manufacturing issues with production

Problem Solving

  • Produce safe, practical and cost-effective solutions to design and construction problems encountered by Specifiers, Engineers and Contractors and maximise specification opportunities for Ancon products
  • Provide safe, practical, and cost-effective solutions using Ancon products
  • Safely adapt standard products to suit non-standard situations, where possible, and advise on the most appropriate choice of Ancon products to specify or install in a given situation

Product Development and Improvement

  • Aid in the design or re-engineering of products to give optimal performance for lowest cost
  • Look for new product solutions or re-engineer existing products to solve new problems
  • Feed back industry trends or market gaps to the Product Engineering and Marketing teams

Reporting and Administration

  • Utilise the CRM system to manage work flow and produce monthly reports for management

Essential Candidate Requirements:

  • Engineering Degree or HNC in relevant discipline plus ability to demonstrate experience
  • Experience in related structural products and general construction
  • Experience in the design/use of products for masonry and concrete
  • Sound commercial skills applied to design and development
  • Proficient in Autocad
  • Proficient in Inventor (or other 3D CAD package)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Design/drafting skills
  • Flexibility and ability to multi-task
  • Self motivated with a hands on approach
  • Able to understand Engineering/Technical Drawings
  • The ability to gather, correlate, analyse and present information in a precise and accurate manner
  • Clear and concise written communication
  • Ability to understand situations and apply engineering principles to describe and define the situation and its solution

Job description

This is an exciting and varied role involving the delivery of Ancon’s brand and product marketing communications, from concept to execution and analysis, including sales/technical literature, web content, email newsletters, blogs, PR, social media, exhibitions, advertising including PPC, packaging, internal communications etc.

Duties include:

  • Working with subject matter experts, as required, to develop professional and engaging media rich content, supporting customer acquisition for lead generation and market positioning.
  • Maintaining and analysing the effectiveness of technically accurate, market-specific and integrated marketing communications and customer campaigns.
  • Production of regular marketing activity reports and trend analysis.
  • Developing and delivering a promotional schedule to drive product specifications and sales enquiries effectively, on time and on budget.
  • Work cross-functionally with relevant stakeholders to ensure consistent and relevant usage of internal communications platforms and manage content.
  • Investigating and implementing the use of new digital marketing technologies and platforms.
  • Agency and supplier management to deliver results within budget, including graphic design, copywriting, translations, print, SEO, web development, exhibition build etc.

Essential requirements

  • Marketing degree or similar equivalent higher education qualification
  • Must demonstrate experience in a B2B marketing communications role, co-ordinating both offline and online multi-channel marketing activities simultaneously, ideally in an international Marketing Communications role.
  • Understand the relative positioning of the brands within different product portfolios and markets.
  • A proven record of transforming complex technical details into tangible selling points and relatable marketing content.
  • High level IT skills, including proficiency in full MS Office suite and ideally online content management systems, email newsletter systems and web analysis tools, such as Google Analytics.
  • Ability to analyse marketing data and activities to translate into insight-based reports.
  • Strong project management, organisational, analytical and administrative skills.
  • Excellent proofreading abilities and an interest in the creative side of marketing that ensures a high standard of work is maintained.

  • CIM/CAM qualification or similar professional marketing qualification
