Peter McDermott appointed as Ancon Group Managing Director

Ancon is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter McDermott as Group Managing Director, effective 1st January 2019 following the retirement of Stuart Maxwell.

Peter, who has been with Ancon for 30 years and Group Operations Director for the past 19 years, brings significant leadership experience and a deep understanding of the company to the role.

He was a driving force in the development and implementation of the business’s successful strategy to diversify from its traditional UK focus on masonry fixings into the global construction accessories business it is today. Ancon now operates from several locations in the UK, Europe, Middle East, Australia and New Zealand, with a truly international distribution network.

He has played a pivotal role in developing and sustaining a culture of operational and commercial excellence that has led Ancon to receive Queen’s Awards for Enterprise in both the Innovation and International Trade categories, underlining the company’s world-class credentials.

Married with two adult sons, Peter has a first-class honours degree in Engineering and an MBA from Sheffield Business School. He is a Director of the British Stainless Steel Association (BSSA), the body set up to promote and support the use of stainless steel across a wide range of industry sectors.

Welcoming Peter to his new role, retiring MD Stuart Maxwell said, “As a long-time colleague and friend, Pete has been hugely influential in developing the business and has the knowledge, experience and vision to face the challenges ahead and lead it into a new era of expansion and development.”

Asked about his plans for the business, Peter said, “My first objective is to ensure it is ‘business as usual’ for our customers, suppliers and employees in the UK and overseas and, to that end, I have worked alongside Stuart for the last four months to ensure a seamless transition. We will continue to focus on customer service, innovation and operational excellence, as the key areas behind our success to date.”

“Whilst there are challenges ahead, the opportunities are vast. As part of CRH, one of the world’s largest construction materials groups, we are able to leverage and benefit from their global presence. Our overseas markets are continuing to grow and the trend towards more sustainable and resilient buildings - areas where we already have great strength - provides excellent opportunity for further growth. The future for Ancon looks very bright and I am excited to be leading the team into 2019 and beyond.”
