New Thermally Efficient Wall Tie for 150mm Cavities
Ancon has become the first UK wall tie manufacturer to offer a Type 2 stainless steel wire tie for insulated cavities up to 150mm wide.
The new ‘Staifix RT2 275mm’ wall tie has been designed to meet the growing demand for wider insulated wall cavities in multi-storey housing and commercial buildings, as thermal performance requirements continue to increase. It is currently the only Type 2 wire wall tie available for cavity widths between 126mm and 150mm, suitable for buildings up to 15 metres high as standard and taller structures subject to calculation.
Ancon’s stainless steel wire ties form part of the company’s low thermal conductivity product range. The new RT2 275mm offers thermal and cost benefits over Type 1 flat ties and Type 3 double-triangle style ties of the same length. With a slender, value-engineered profile, and a cross-sectional area of 10.2mm² it minimises thermal bridging in masonry cavity walls and is ideal for low energy buildings.
Like all Staifix cavity ties, the RT2 has been independently tested at Ceram Building Technology, carries CE marking and can be used in line with NHBC standards.
Launch of this new Staifix-branded wall tie follows major investment at Ancon’s 55,000sq.ft manufacturing facility in Deeside, North Wales.
The company’s new state-of-the-art 3D wire forming technology allows Ancon to offer stainless steel wire products in virtually any length or design; an investment which future-proofs the organisation’s wall tie manufacturing operations.
Ancon Marketing Manager, Annabelle Wilson, says
As insulation standards rise and cavity widths increase, the demands on wall ties become much greater. Not only does the heat lost through thermal bridging via the ties become more significant in terms of the overall construction performance, but greater strength is also crucial to maintain the stability of the structure. With our extensive stainless steel knowledge and unrivalled manufacturing facilities, Ancon is able to provide engineered, low conductivity wall ties that meet both requirements.
The new RT2 275mm is another ‘industry first’. It underlines Ancon’s position as the industry innovator which was cemented by our recent achievement of the 2012 Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation - the highest accolade that any UK business can achieve for product development and business performance.
The Staifix range is readily available via builders’ merchants and other specialist construction distributors throughout the UK and Ireland.
Supplied distinctively packaged in boxes of 250 ties and bags of 20, the new RT2 275mm is backed by the usual Ancon sales support package offered to Staifix distributors, including literature, training, merchandising and project referrals.

From January 1st 2021, the UK will recognise both the EU CE marking approvals, for a time limited period, and the new UK based approval system, which will be known as the UKCA mark. The EU will only recognise CE marking by EU notified bodies as proof of efficacy moving forwards. Leviat has been working closely with both EU notified and UK approved bodies to ensure compliance is achieved at the earliest possible opportunity and we can confirm that we have obtained all relevant certification.
