Helical Wall Tie for Timber-Framed Buildings

Ancon launches a new helical wall tie for timber-framed buildings

Ancon is pleased to announce the launch of a new helical wall tie for use in timber frame construction.

The TIM6 is a Type 6 wall tie suitable for fixing masonry cladding to timber frames up to four storeys in height. It is manufactured in four standard lengths to suit cavities from 50mm to 150mm. This tie is ideal for use where insulation is being incorporated within the cavity, as it accepts the Ancon universal insulation retaining clip.

The TIM6 forms part of the Staifix-Thor Helical range of hammer-driven fixings supplied by Ancon; a range which also includes stainless steel batten fixings for insulated roofs.

The helix of these Ancon fixings has a precise pitch that cuts a consistent path as it is driven in to timber; each rotation interlocks perfectly down its length to guarantee maximum performance. This helix design is patented and therefore unique to the Thor Helical range.

The TIM6 can be hammered through insulation without compressing the material and, although the tie creates a thermal bridge across an insulated cavity, its small cross-sectional area means heat transfer is negligible.

Annabelle Wilson, Ancon’s Marketing Manager says,

Ancon continues to expand its wall tie range to meet changes in building techniques and to ensure our clients can meet their thermal and acoustic performance aspirations.

In addition to the TIM6 tie, Ancon also manufactures two other wall ties for use with timber frames. The Staifix STF6 is manufactured in three lengths to suit non-insulated cavities of 50mm, 75mm and 100mm, and the Ancon TFMT Timber Frame Movement Tie is a Type 7 tie to accommodate differential movement with the outer leaf of up to 65mm.
